Manaia Ogbechie keeps giving Nebraska fans something to celebrate. On October 12, the sophomore earned her first Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor, about a month after being named Big Ten Player of the Week. Her NIL representation is handled by Christina Duvall (formerly Brennan), President of Renegade Talent MGMT, a top volleyball agency representing college and professional players.
A Big Week at the Net
Nebraska entered the week ranked No. 1 and finished it as the unanimous top team in the country. Manaia helped make that happen.
Across sweeps of No. 15 Indiana and No. 7 Wisconsin, she recorded 13 blocks, averaging 2.17 per set. That average led the Big Ten and ranked eighth nationally for the week.
At Indiana, she paired six blocks with eight kills on .500 hitting. Back home against Wisconsin on Saturday night, she added seven blocks and helped hold the Badgers to .171 hitting.
Two Weekly Honors and a National Watch List
The defensive award follows a September performance that earned Manaia Big Ten Player of the Week. She finished that three-match stretch with 33 kills on .547 hitting and 12 blocks.
On October 8, she also joined the AVCA Player of the Year Watch List as one of 16 midseason additions. Between her hitting numbers and her work at the block, she’s giving opponents plenty to account for.
Beyond Match Day
The morning after the Wisconsin match, Manaia was back out meeting fans. She joined Nebraska teammates at SCHEELS in Lincoln on Sunday, October 11, for a WHOOP meet-and-greet, signing autographs and taking photos.
Away from volleyball, she’s double majoring in management and marketing in the University Honors Program. Her interest in learning and getting involved started well before Nebraska. After graduating high school early, she spent the extra months working as a research assistant for a women’s sports TV show and interning for a youth sports program.
Why Fans Follow Manaia
Volleyball brings people to Manaia’s page, but her personality gives them plenty of reasons to stay. Her natural curls and changing hairstyles are a regular topic in her comments, where she answers questions about everything from hair to recruiting advice for younger players.
That connection has helped her build a following of more than 22,000 on Instagram. As an Adidas NIL partner with interests beyond the court, she offers brands several ways to connect with her audience, including performance, wellness, hair care, and everyday healthy living.

At Renegade Talent MGMT, Christina handles NIL strategy, brand partnerships, content, and long-term career development for college athletes like Manaia.
